Oak · History: Vikings (Lindisfarne, 793)

The raiders are behind him. The sea is closing in. The book must get across.

Lindisfarne, 793. When dragon-headed ships land on the island, young Edwin is handed the monastery's most precious book and told to run. The only way off the island is the path across the sands to the mainland, and the tide is already coming in. With raiders behind him and the sea closing in from both sides, Edwin has to get the book across before the path disappears under the water.

For teachers: Fits Vikings and Anglo-Saxons: a chase across the real tidal crossing to Holy Island, told with almost no explaining.

Format: Classroom book (three episodes) and three home reading booklets.
